Finally

I finally finished my last over due wedding present.
I've actually had the painting done for well over a month but finally got around to putting it in a custom frame I made.  I had originally planned to use a frame I had picked up years ago at the local YWCA art auction and was one of the reasons I had made such a large watercolor to fit into it, but after trying to make it fit it didn't work out so well.

Here we have a mostly done photo of the painting.  I had thought I'd taken a few more interim photos but I guess not.

Anyways I had decided to do my own frame from some I had seen at a friends house.

I think I'd use real glass next time instead of plexi, but I was afraid that a piece this big might break as I was trying to get it home.  The actual art is about 17x24 so the plexi is about an inch larger than the art and the wood is close to 2 1/2 inches larger than the plexi.

Just waiting for the world to end like everybody else.

In the mean time I finished a project my sister requested.  She's been student teaching and she asked if I could draw some frogs for the teacher she's been working with

 So this is what I came up with.  I realize I needed more black space in the drawing, but I couldn't decided how to do it so I just said screw it and sent it off with my nephews and niece's Christmas cash.  Not too bad for never really drawing frogs before.

I've finally buckled down and started working on some long over due wedding presents for people I owe them too and a couple for some up coming. Here's the first one I've finished.

Here we have the sketch and start to the painting.  I had two odd ball frames measuring 8x24 so I thought what better way to kill two birds with one stone than to paint one picture and make two out of it.  The sheet measures 24x16, but I didn't realize till after I finished and framed that the full measurement of the paper is to the end of the sheet including the perforations at the top.

  I was inspired by some art I had seen at a friends house and thought I might try my own take on sockeye spawning in the river.

Here we have the first layer of the fish and starting on the water.

I forgot to get a picture of the finished sheet before I cut it up. But here is the preframed result.

And here we have the finished product.  Not too shabby. Now just two more to go and I think I'm done.

The APO

I was digging through some stacks of old drawings and came out with these two gems.

I was a North Pacific Ground Fish Observer for over 11 years.  Pretty much that means I go out on fishing boats and collect biological data for the National Marine Fisheries Service.  The APO is an organization that focuses on observers around the country and the world.  I was asked a while back to try and come up with some new logos and designs for the association.

The Fett

I entered a contest over at the Writer's Journey.  For an extra entry you have to do something creative, so I did a quick sketch of Boba Fett.

I know I haven't posted in a few days, but I'm working on larger projects and nothing was completed to show, but I'm still trying to set aside at least an hour a day to draw or paint or doodle, or whatever.

The beginning.

Slacking....no MORE!!! I guess.

I made a resolution to myself to start drawing again.  After pretty much taking all of 2011 off from my creative side I decided I needed to push myself to get back into it.  I really blame Facebook, well Facebook games, anyways for my slacking.  So I'm trying to set aside at least an hour a day to draw,  doodle, whatever.

One of my favorite underground artists, Carrie McNinch, you may have heard of her, or not.  She's behind such classics as the Assassin and the Whiner, You Don't get there from here, and her own graphic novel, I Want Everything to Be Alright.

It's this graphic novel that really inspired me to do what I'm planning on doing.  I read it a while back, but Carrie pretty much took a year off from drawing and then to get back into it she forced herself to put out a page a day. She's one of the pioneers of the autobiographical comic, and while there not all gems, it's a pretty interesting read.  Plus Carrie is a great artist.  Well worth the read.

So that's my goal to draw something, anything, everyday.  And I plan on posting it here.  Will it be gold?  Most decidedly not, but I'm hoping it starts me in the right direction.
