Christmas Minis

My wife asked me to draw a some small stuff to add to the gift she was sending to our niece and nephews on her side of the family.

I ended up making a few more than needed just because I was on a roll.  A couple turned out pretty nice.  The drawing size is 4.5 inches x 3 inches

It's that time of year again...Christmas Octopus

It's becoming a tradition that I draw something to be given away during Christmas.  Whether I'm celebrating with family or friends we usually do a White Elephant gift exchange and the art is always a big hit.  I was having trouble coming up with an idea when my wife suggested I just do another octopus.  My studio space has been relagated to a corner of the kitchen table, but I was able to bag this one out in just about a day.  From conception, to pencils, to ink.  Not to shabby and I'm really pleased how it turned out.

Christmas Bizarre

Here at work during the holiday season, starting at Halloween and running right through Christmas, we have events.  From group feeds, costume contests, and other charity events.  Before Christmas we have what is called a Dough Run.  It's a poker run based on baked goods.  You go from department to department buying various treats and then you get an envelope with a card inside.  During the event they also have a silent auction.  The auction is made up of all sorts of donated stuff.  From tickets to events and homemade jams to art and clothing.  Everyone seems to go gaga for the art and it usually brings in a nice chunk of change. This year I decided I'd actually get my act together and draw something to donate.

Since I'm a fisheries biologist I love to draw fish and people here will eat this up.  I only took one unfinished photo.
Here it is all framed up. I love these inexpensive floating frames.  And if who ever wins this wants they can always upgrade.

Who's your buddy, who's your pal?

As a matter of tradition, even if it's only a couple of years, I've made a piece of artwork that goes into the White Elephant gift exchange.  The past couple of years that's been with a group of friends, this year it was with my wife's family and the stealing was epic.  My mother-in-law ended up with it in the end.  Oddly enough as my list of to do art continues to grow I have a piece I sketched out for her as well as a thank you for all the help she's provided us with in watching our son when our day care lady is off.

Can you guess the type of salmon depicted?  The clue is in the title.

I don't do a lot of color work, but I thought this limited use was nice and highlighted the fish.

Another Christmas Octopus

Seems like a running theme for Christmas presents. This was draw as a thank you to our friend who watched out dog over the holidays.
